The investigation of [FBK] influenced the results

Chairman of the Moscow branch of the United Russia party, Andrei Metelsky, who lost communist Sergei Savostyanov in the 15th district in the Moscow City Duma elections, linked his defeat to the investigation of Alexei Navalny’s FBK. It is reported by Interfax.

The “Russian BBC Service” quotes Metelsky: “Yes, I think so, the investigation of [FBK] influenced the results, seriously affected - this is a certain tactic of struggle. The elections were held, they were held in competition, there were a lot of emotions, intrigues, and dirt, nevertheless they were held in accordance with the current legislation. The elections were fair. The voter sees other priorities, other candidates. ”

Interfax Metelsky said that "he will work on the bugs, life goes on." He stated that he intended to go to court and uphold "his good name."

Secretary of the United Russia General Council Andrei Turchak said that Metelsky’s defeat was a nuisance for the party, but promised not to deprive him of his post. He noted that Metelsky is an experienced fighter "and will not lose his place in the party system."
Metelsky was elected to the Moscow City Duma since 2001. In July, FBK Navalny issued an investigation alleging that the family of the Moscow United Russia leader owns a hotel chain in Austria and expensive real estate in Moscow. After this, Metelsky filed a lawsuit against Navalny on the protection of honor and dignity. He also filed a lawsuit to remove Savostyanov from the election due to “copyright infringement on the candidate’s website,” but later withdrew the lawsuit. Metelsky himself went to the polls as a self-nominated candidate. In turn, Alexey Navalny called for Savostyanov to vote in the framework of the “Smart Voting”.

After processing 100% of the protocols of precinct election commissions, 20 candidates from the systemic opposition are included in the Moscow City Duma of the seventh convocation. There are 45 places in the Moscow City Duma. In 2014, according to the results of the elections to the capital’s parliament, only seven people from the opposition passed, and United Russia received 38 seats. This time the Communist Party has 13 seats, Yabloko has four, Fair Russia has three, and self-nominated and United Russia 25.
